As we take steps to reduce mailing costs and use less paper we will be using our website, email, and social media to keep members informed about lectures, field trips, news, and notes of interest about birding in the Lowcountry. We will be greatly reducing the amount of printed material we produce each year as a result. The Lesser Squawk, our newsletter, has been resurrected by our new editor Hannah Martin in a digital format. Anyone having interest in contributing to this digital version with suggestions, articles, or other content please contact our editor at the chapter’s email address.
Digital PDFs of the Lesser Squawk, that are available at this time, can be found below.
We are in need of past editions of the Lesser Squawk. Please contact a board member, so we may get a scanned copy from you, should you have issues not available here.
As mentioned in our Biography page the South Carolina Historical Society (SCHS) maintains a significant trove of 20th century documents pertaining to us, the Charleston Natural History Society, as noted in their detailed inventory cover sheet: Records, 1913-2002 SCHS 290-00. As of this writing those documents are in non digitized storage, may be accessed with permission of the SCHS, and used only within the confines of their terms of use release.

Archival Lesser Squawk:
A choice was made, in the scanning process of older issues, to not over handle them. As you will see many of them are in a deteriorated state. The pages will not be in numeral order and some issues may lack portions of their content. Handling and storage over the decades has also resulted in page loss. Members are encouraged to contact a board member should they have an issue in better condition, than what appears below, so that we may obtain a scan of it. We would also encourage you to reach out to us should you have issues that do no appear below.
